Biography
Antonio Dovizio
Italian Navy Commander (OF-4) ret.
Antonio Dovizio was born in Italy in 1981. He attended Line Officers course in the Italian Naval
Academy from 2000 until 2005, taking a Master’s degree in Politics and International Relations, as well
as qualification as Navy Officer, specialized in Telecommunications, Operations and Electronic
Warfare. He served on board of several combatant ships as Electronic Warfare Officer, Operation
Officer, Navigator, Staff Intelligence Officer, taking part in several Nato and European Operations
(Active Endeavour, Atalanta, Odyssey Dawn, Unified Protector and Cirene in Libya, NATO’s counter
piracy mission - Operation Ocean Shield in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, Operation Sea
Guardian). He was Commanding Officer of ITS VEGA (OPV – P 404) during the period 2014 – 2015,
taking part in several maritime security, counter illegal immigration and trafficking operations and
S.A.R. (Mare Nostrum Operation, Frontex Joint Operation Triton, Mare Sicuro Operation, Sicily
Channel patrol and fishery protection), Executive Officer of the 4th of “Fregate Europee Multi
Missione” (F.R.E.M.M.) class of ships: ITS Carabiniere (FFGH – F 593) (2022-2023) and designated
Commanding Officer of the 2
nd of “Fregate Europee Multi Missione” (F.R.E.M.M.) class of ships: ITS
Virginio Fasan (FFGH – F 591).
Ashore, he was posted to Italian Navy Construction, Outfitting and Testing Office to follow up the
process of qualification, acceptance and trials on the Combat System (with particular reference to the
Electronic Warfare System) of the 1st of “Fregate Europee Multi Missione” (F.R.E.M.M.) class of ships:
ITS Carlo Bergamini (FFGH – F 590) (2011-2013), at Italian Navy General Staff as deputy chief of
Electronic Warfare Office in the Ship Design and Combat System Department and Italian
representative in the NATO Above the Water Warfare Capability Group (2016-2019), involved in the
major procurement programs of the Italian Navy in terms of new Combat Systems and EW systems.
He served at NATO Joint Electronic Warfare Core Staff (JEWCS) in Yeovilton (UK) as Training and
Analysis Section Chief (2019–2022).
He attended the Joint Services Staff College (Istituto Superiore di Stato Maggiore Interforze - ISSMI) in
Rome qualifying as Senior Joint Staff Officer and achieving a Post-graduate Masters’ in International
Strategic and Military Studies Graduation at the University of Turin and he is a NATO Certified
Instructor.
He retired from the Italian Navy in 2023 and since then he works in ELT Group, Elettronica SpA as Chief
of Defensive & Offensive EMSO in the Corporate Chief Scientist Office - Engineering & Operations.
